Review on 🖥️ LG 27GL850-B Ultragear Gaming Monitor 2560x1440p, Adjustable Tilt & Pivot, High Dynamic Range (HDR), 27GL850-B.AUS, HD by Mark Vogt

I have to start by saying I switched to this monitor from a basic 1080p TV setup and was on the verge of upgrading to full 4K for my gaming rig, but I'm glad I settled on this lovely 27" 1440p LG Ultragear and it has exceeded all my expectations. I have been playing my PS4 Pro on a 4K 60Hz TV but this is the first gaming screen above 1080p that I have personally and for me this monitor has a much better picture quality. To be honest I put it in a pretty good build (i7 10700K, GTX 2070 Super, 16GB RAM) but to say it was an improvement over my TV+ Xbox One is a gross understatement. I play Destiny 2 a lot and now it's a completely different game. Everything on this monitor is so smooth and bursting with color. When running graphically demanding games with G-Sync or Freesync like Destiny 2, Gears of War 5/Tactics, Dishonored 2, this screen really shines. It's very noticeable when a game you've been playing on the console for a long time, Destiny 2 for me, now breaks its framerate limit and runs at a pristine 1440@144Hz resolution on this monitor. It really was an "I was blind but now I see" moment. As other reviewers point out, the 1ms response time is really just a marketing gimmick. Technically, the monitor can achieve such a response, but the picture quality drops dramatically. At a slightly lower speed it works perfectly. About 4 or 5 ms if memory is set aside for the next faster setting. The assembly went well. There is a single screw in the entire installation and the base fits easily and precisely into the groove on the back of the monitor, held in place by clips operated with a simple knob. Once you've assembled it, it feels pretty solid as you start rotating the monitor and pushing and pulling the top to the right angle. If you want the screen to be higher or lower, just lift or push it down, but it's worth noting that while the screen rotates around the X axis, it doesn't rotate the Y axis. Just a problem, if your monitor is not on a flat, smooth surface. It's also important to know that when the screen is tilted 90 degrees from a vertical display, the screen only rotates in one direction. Be careful not to improperly tighten the item when adjusting it this way, although the average user probably won't need to. The display doesn't rotate to follow the screen like your smartphone does. Unless you buy a bunch of these things and chain them vertically, you're probably going to keep it horizontal. The monitor also offers some additional features for gamers that can be overlaid on top of any game you play if you just want to display game footage, screenshots or your FPS. It can even add an artificial crosshair to any game that it might not display for you for one reason or another. It looks sharp even when it's not running. The red accents make the monitor look cool, although I wish they made the edges of the screen red as it's not very noticeable from the front. This monitor also doesn't have speakers, which wasn't a downside for me, but it should be noted. $500 is a lot for a monitor and my review might be a little biased coming from such a poor previous setup. I can't tell you if this monitor is better than any other 1440p monitor, or how it compares to a solid 4K monitor. I also don't know how this monitor will work with Xbox Series S 1440p support with HDMI instead of DisplayPort. I'm also hesitant to talk about the brightness of this monitor because I really don't have anything to compare it to. It's reasonably bright even in bright sunlight, although I've heard the HDR 400 is a bit underpowered compared to some other high-resolution monitors in this class. All in all, if you're like me and making the jump from 1080p for the first time, then you won't be at all disappointed with what this monitor has to offer. Just know that you can never go back to a 1080p console setup without a lot of resentment.
