When I first bought this I thought it was a joke novelty. However, it didn't sit very well on the table during initial testing. I have thoroughly cleaned inside and out as it is a plastic product made in China. I don't know the status of BPA. My first test was to shake each one by hand. Only a pinch came out. Then I used a drawstring. Much more came out. Think of this item as a STEROID shaker. This can be helpful for people with arthritis, but it takes effort to pull the cord, hold it, and then release it over the plate. I believe it can be used by chefs and cooks.
