I bought these gloves because I was tired of getting my hands dirty working with machines or painting furniture. A few things to watch out for - take a size bigger than you think - I found them a bit small. I can put them on and they work, but wish they were a little bigger. Also, when I changed four tires, changed the oil, and bled the brakes on my car, I had a hole in one of my fingers (which I didn't realize until I was done), so they're not that hard. They should be perfect for painting or staining, but you'll probably need to replace them halfway through a more complex project. Otherwise they work well and are comfortable.
