Review on Nikon 24-120mm f/4G ED Vibration Reduction Zoom Lens with Auto Focus - AF-S FX NIKKOR for Nikon DSLR Cameras by Riko Doi ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good value for money, I recommend.

I use on D800. This is my first FX zoom. Chose from two. In the store, both are exactly the same. During the week I checked on landscapes, architecture and a few portraits. The picture is clearly higher in quality than on the DX18-200. Not inferior to fixes 24 / 2.8 and 50 / 1.4 in terms of AF accuracy (in 3/4 of the central region frame). HA is also higher at the edges. In landscapes, you can crop without looking edges by 5%. The portraits turned out well. GRIP is convenient for me. Bokeh - weak, inexpressive. My conclusions: A good all-rounder for reporting. Not good enough for art photography. Expected more for the "gold series". I leave, most likely it will be the main one. But I'm not parting with fixes. PS (three years later) - A good wagon. I was surprised to find the low speed of focusing on sports in high-speed burst mode. I’m shooting and I can’t understand - sharpness to the point, he didn’t give such a percentage of quality, I check the settings - the usual ones. I experimented a lot with the modes, but here is the simplest one and how it should be! Something is not right - narrow and I see - in a hurry I put the old DH18-200 . In general, it doesn’t pull on high-speed shooting, it doesn’t have time to focus, but it’s good for statics - landscapes and portraits .

Pros
  • 1. Convenient range of focal lengths. 2. High detail and good color reproduction. 3. Good wagon.
Cons
  • 1. Narrow focus ring. 2. A different value of the AF adjustment value has come to light. At 24 mm -10, at 50 mm -8, at 120 mm -5. Inconvenient, stopped at -7. 3. We only have 77mm filters on order.
