I tried using this hub with my 16" MacBook Pro and a LG 4K display. It worked fine initially, but after a day or so the display started randomly flickering and turning off. Connecting the display directly to my laptop works fine, so it's the hub, not the display. Also, the always-on cable that connected to the computer is very short (maybe 6 inches or so). This seriously limits the flexibility of placing the hub on my desk. In the next version of this product, please make the host cable detachable! For the user to use their own cable of any length No, there is absolutely no reason to permanently connect it to the hub.
