I'm not a professional photographer but I consider myself an advanced hobbyist. I jumped on the "digital" bandwagon in 1998 and have had 8 different cameras since then. I currently shoot with a Canon SLR for most of my life, but bought this Panasonic for my wife (she had a small 5MP Canon in her purse for point and shoot use). She wanted something small, light, but with MUCH better ZOOM abilities so she could shoot birds from time to time. Panasonic seemed to fit the bill. We've only had it a few weeks, but here are our observations: 1. Very well built; Quality conscious 2. Smaller/lighter than I thought (considering an amazing zoom lens) 3. Panasonic's decision to set the zoom to wide START (28mm equivalent) was correct. We can take indoor shots (or great landscape shots) and then zoom in4. The anti-vibration is amazing. She has captured several sunsets handheld at full zoom and the results rival those I can capture with my Canon DSLR on a tripod!5. Speaking of sunsets, she uses full auto and the exposure is PERFECT!6. We only shot one video and the results are AMAZING. For MOST video use, we no longer carry our camcorder.7. Exposure and color saturation are correct for all types of shots (indoor flash, outdoor evening fill-in flash, full sun, sun+shadow, close-up, etc. etc.)8. VERY impressive face recognition feature! It's creepy to watch as it follows the subject as it moves through the frame and keeps it in focus!9. Excellent battery life (we took maybe 50-60 photos + videos and the battery's "level of charge" indicator still shows 3/4 of the remaining capacity). Defects? The digital camera we've ever had, and at just over $200, that's a great deal too!
