This swivel worked great to adapt an oak stool I bought without hardware. The original design used a center post/spindle attached to the seat, but these don't seem to be available unless you can find a used one, so I used this swivel to attach a spare seat (from another stool), and it works like a charm. The original mounting holes were already 2 1/2" on center, so I just had to drill through them to insert some 1/4-20 3" screws. The stool itself is not in perfect shape so I didn't want to spend a lot of money to fix it and this fits perfectly. I used 5/16" screws to attach the seat.
