Will be transparent. I don't usually bother with reviews of specific products unless they are exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. If you are reading this you most likely have a general idea of the amount of time, work and effort it takes to install an audio system in a car or boat. As for me, I took the time to read reviews and understand exactly what I was getting and even compared other brands and features before I bought my boat. I have used MTX in my cars in the past and it has always worked well so why not give it a try? Right? NOT RIGHT. Since receiving this amp we have spent over 4 COMPLETE days installing this amp with a COMPLETE audio system on my boat to specs. Make sure all wiring, all power and ground wires are in good condition. I've worked with my father, an electrical engineer, for over 29 years to ensure everything is absolutely perfect. When we tested the MTX amp in the garage it was great - very clear and responsive. A quick jog across the lake, we were impressed with the sound quality. 4th July, mecca of parties on the lake for the boat owners and the busiest day of the year on the lake, we took a group of 8 friends = 10 people. When we got to the bay we noticed a noise coming and coming from the boat. When I got under the passenger side, where the amp is located (not closed, but open space), I immediately noticed that the amp goes into protection mode, goes in and out. Strangely, disconnected, reconnected - the same thing. Engine started, same thing. I then connected the power leads to the second battery, thinking maybe something weird was happening with the power - same thing. In desperation I unplugged the amp and played the music straight from the main deck factory style - no problem! This prompted me that something was up with this amp. It was a hot day (about 98 degrees) so maybe he overheated? But shouldn't ship boosters be able to withstand such weather conditions? That, of course, is why you buy a marine booster. To be sure, I measured the amp with a digital laser thermal thermometer I have on the boat - 117 degrees. I looked in the manual and it shows that the overheat protection light comes on at 175 degrees. Should be able to handle it. NO. So in the SUN all day, it should be an epic party and great vacation, we DON'T HAVE MUSIC (thanks to MTX R&D). In general, be careful if you buy this and go out on a hot day. While it may say it can work with the elements, after testing and using this particular amp - transparently - cannot. The BIG NEWS in all of this is that I bought it from Revain and they are very understanding of situations like this. After speaking to a few other buddies with clean, powerful boat audio systems, they advised me to get a JL amp, which they played in the same conditions as our boat. We agreed that older MTX products are much better and more durable. I will buy it today = Guaranteed. I hope this helps you in your decision-making process. From the 4th!
