Review on πŸ“· Sigma 271965 70mm F2.8 Art DG Macro Lens for Sony E, Black by Dan Dickey

Great macro lens for the price

The lenses in the Sigma ART series never fail to impress me. Maintain sharp focus and an overall durable, well-engineered lens. This lens has good reviews online, so I'll focus on why you shouldn't buy this lens. If you're an autofocus fanatic, this lens isn't for you. You can limit focus to 0.258-0.5m or 0.5m to infinity, which improves the AF responsiveness of this lens, but otherwise it's not fast macro AF. I was aware of that when I bought it. To get this result, you need to spend an extra $400-500 on a Sony lens or some other lens. Electronic focusing causes a lot of negative press. I have no complaints about that. This lens requires quite a few turns of the focus ring to go from infinity to 1:1, but usually when I'm shooting flowers/bugs and such in the meadow I'm already popping the lens. Wired focusing is definitely beneficial for micro focus settings. Definitely good for tripod photography. I'm only deducting the star because of the lack of internal image stabilization. However, I shot out of hand with the Sony A6400 without any problems. When used on a tripod this lens works just as well as any other internally stabilized macro. Again, there's a $400-$500 discount if you don't have this feature. I highly recommend this lens other than the above. For the price it can't be beat.
