The CD has many advantages but one very annoying aspect that prevents me from giving it a full 5 stars. For all the good things about this CD player, one aspect of the design once again made me wonder what the heck Sony was thinking when they made this. You will see what I am talking about below. Pros: - Sound: The player has a good sound system. Each volume level has approximately three settings, for a total of nine levels. That means if you are on volume level 1, you can increase the volume three times before it moves to the next volume level 2. So you can increase them to your preferred settings for each volume level. But to be honest, most people won't notice a difference because most of us turn the volume all the way up by default. There's also a neat feature here that lets you place volumes with low default settings of 3 and below. I believe this was done in case the volume needed to be quickly turned from high to low rather than holding the volume button down until it went low or turning the player off instead. But Sony says it's for hearing protection. There's also bass settings that let you control it with two simple settings. But you don't even need the sound quality of this player unless you really want to kill your eardrums. Size: The size of this turntable is very nice and compact. It fits easily in a medium sized bag and bag without worrying about it being big and chunky. You can put it in the palm of your hand, for God's sake. Small size with good sound quality? Isn't that what you are looking for here? -Features: Well, apart from the ability to play CD-R/RW discs flawlessly, there isn't much in this category -Accessories: This player comes standard with car accessories. Ribbon and battery adapters and traditional power supply. But it comes with nice extras for the average driver. The player comes with a small pen-shaped remote control that plugs into the headphone jack. With this adapter, you can fast-forward and rewind by turning it in the right direction, as well as pause the CD player and step back and forth through selected songs without taking your eyes off the road to see where you are located on the player. Oh yes, don't let the image of this CD you see above fool you. These fold-down headphones are NOT supplied with the player. The player comes with standard headphones, which are surprisingly very good. Also note that this player does not come with batteries. The player can use rechargeable nickel hydrate batteries, also known as Ni-MH. It can even charge them using the AC adapter as a power source for you. But one thing here is that Sony recommends only using YOUR brand rechargeable NiMH batteries for the trickle charge function. I don't know if this is a sales ploy or if the player isn't set up to charge another brand of device (which doesn't make sense since charging is no different). I would say that people charging batteries do so at their own risk. Design 1: The design of this player is beautiful, elegant, the buttons are easy to reach without looking for anything while jogging or in the dark. This player if very strong. Virtually NO PASSPORTS. I played the CD upside down and moved the player left, right and sideways and there was no fluctuation in the sound. This player is assembled correctly. BUT. Cons: -Design 2: .Sony's choice of where to place the batteries to power the player is absurd! The battery compartment is actually INSIDE THE CD PLAYER! That's right, that's right where you put your CD. Right under the lid! That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Most battery compartments are either on the side or on the bottom of the CD player, but this player requires you to place the batteries under the CD cover. AND UNDER SAM KD! Now let's look at it logically. Your batteries are dead, what to do? Replace them by following a quick two-step process: 1) Open the battery compartment, remove the old batteries 2) Insert new batteries and close the battery compartment. Easy! For this player you need: 1) Open the lid, PULL OUT YOUR CD! 2) Open the battery compartment and remove the old ones 3) Insert new batteries, close the cover 4) Put the CD back in, close the cover and press the play button! It's so damn funny I had to laugh the first time I saw it. Like people walking or jogging down the street, there is time to go through the long process of taking out the CD every time you want to change batteries. This means you actually have to stop, because I doubt you'll want to drop your CD, which you either have to hold with your other hand or between your fingers. And to make matters worse, but not too bad, there's an anti-hit/skip button here too. What doesn't make this so bad is that the CD comes with anti-shock enabled by default. I mean those who want to hear the music they have to skip and go back and forth in the CD cover the whole time. Conclusion: what? Are you there? You have a player that: 1) sounds good 2) plays CD-R/RW CDs 3) doesn't skip 4) comes with good accessories 5) and lasts a while. Your search is over. Just buy and enjoy.
