These straps are designed for light use and as such serve well. Correct routing of the strap end under the buckle is essential for the product to function properly and to avoid slipping. When wear begins, if it is not excessive, the torch used to melt the wear edge will repair the nylon and prevent further wear in that particular area of the belt. Excessive heat will cause the nylon in the repaired area to bulge, preventing it from fitting through the buckle. There were no rubber pads for the buckle in my kit.
