The provided HDMI cable does not support the resolution of the monitor!
The HDMI cable that came with the monitor is useless, so I'm deducting a few stars for all the time wasted troubleshooting when I connected it to my latest MacBook Pro. The resolution was really low. After spending over an hour downloading drivers and troubleshooting to no avail, I replaced the HDMI cable with one that supports 4k/60Hz and voila, problem solved.
