Review on New Balance Summit Trail Running Men's Shoes and Athletic by Rusty Heredia

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A potentially great shoe that's held back by a small detail

This is a lightweight trail running shoe with an 8mm drop. Which I prefer as a slight overpronator, zero drops don't work for me. In my opinion, an important part of a trail running shoe is tongue padding, and more importantly, some sort of "tongue retention” design to prevent the tongue from slipping under the laces while running. This happens most often when you drive uphill and downhill. There isn't much padding or tongue support in this shoe. This causes the tongue to slide down and you end up having pain and discomfort at the pressure points of your own laces. So I can't recommend them at all unless you just run flatter trails. I love the cleats, the stone plate, the midsole, the sizing, pretty much everything about this shoe, except for the fatal flaw in the upper.
