They don't do things the way they used to

I have a big age difference between my children (the eldest is 14 and the youngest is 10 months old). I had this toy when my 14 year old was a kid and absolutely loved it - it was very well made and has been a favorite for many years. I decided I should buy it now for my kid so I was happy to see they still make it. It was nice to hear most of the old tunes played by the old one. However, this one isn't nearly as good as the old one. It's super light and weightless. My kid actually uses it as a baby walker and pushes it on the floor. The old one would be too solid to do this with "drums" which don't work the way they used to (they would get stuck until you hit another one). What used to be plastic frog figures are now stickers. The "book" in the middle is made of much thinner plastic. I don't understand why they replaced the cello with a xylophone - the strings sound very good. All in all a big disappointment. The only nice thing is that it now includes a Spanish version which I'm not entirely sure we'll be using. I'll keep an eye out for the old ones at thrift stores.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • So like that
