The build quality of this unit is excellent: solid metal, a smooth and well-damped knob, and serious RCA connectors. Unfortunately, the bank is VERY non-linear. At 95% of the knob travel, the volume is 5% of maximum; The volume quickly jumps to the maximum in the last 5% of travel. In a small portion of the mid-range between 5% and 100% volume, the left channel is noticeably louder than the right. Needless to say, this makes it completely useless as a volume control. Instead, it's an extremely expensive but surprisingly tactile mute switch. It's so pretty, although I'll probably just leave it on my desk so I can play around with the stylus.
