This unit can be set to work all the time or only at night as the light sensor can be bypassed if desired. It is charged by a large solar panel at the top of the device. The display has red and blue areas on both sides, each consisting of two separate fields. Four squares will flash alternately and alternately at the same time on each side of the device. The display is fairly bright, highly visible and eye-catching during the day, but not blindingly bright at night unless you're looking directly at the display. Working only at night, I found the unit worked flawlessly all night after five hours of direct sunlight during the day. You will need to purchase a mounting stand separately, but hardware is available to allow for easy mounting of the device. This is not a decorative object, but a hazard warning. Please note that in many states you cannot use it near public roads because the lights are red and blue and you cannot use it anywhere in your vehicle. It would be wise to check local regulations if you intend to use this outside of your immediate home environment. My unit arrived with no issues operating, however there is a piece of plastic floating behind one of the front plastic frames between the LEDs which looks like something inside the unit was cracked during shipping. This does not affect the overall function. The unit claims to be water resistant and seems securely sealed - I filled mine with water from a hose and it continued to work just fine.
