I don't know exactly how long it was supposed to be, but it took about 7 months before I started having serious problems. It's incredibly durable and easily survives falls and the like. After so long he started pushing dirt and dust in. I do odd jobs in the summer, and even inside the case, grass and dirt got on the screen, which is my main complaint. It can be scratched easily, but it's much better than scratching the screen. Also, I had some black stuff from the back that landed on the back of my iPod and barely came off. Another thing to keep in mind is that if for some reason you're using coax cable, it probably won't fit. To do this I had to completely disassemble the case until I discovered that doing so would break the latches holding the case together. All in all it's still a very good product even for the price, OtterBox is definitely not messing around with the protection.
