Review on ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ MSI G241 Monitor - FreeSync, 1920X1080 Resolution, 144Hz Refresh Rate, Blue Light Filter, Flicker-Free, Optix G241 by Bob Zumaya

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Very good monitor when it works

I had read other reviews about HDMI flickering issues, so I decided to connect it to an MSI Gen2 USB 3.0 docking port (which in turn is connected to an MSI GE66 Raider laptop) using the included DisplayPort cable . The monitor turned on immediately and I was able to bump the resolution up to 4K at 60Hz with no problem (unfortunately 60Hz is the maximum the dock can output). However, as shown in the attached image, there seems to be a strange "smearing" or "pixelation" issue with any icon, window, taskbar, or program opened on the desktop. The desktop background itself looks beautiful. I also had to take this shot with my phone because the screenshot looked perfect. I sent a request to MSI and haven't received a response yet. In the meantime I decided to try the HDMI2 connection. The first attempt caused me an extreme flickering problem. I unplugged it and plugged it back into HDMI1 and this time it worked with no issues. Resolution, refresh rate and everything works perfectly as advertised. Unfortunately, this seems to be the norm for all my MSI hardware. Things work. most of time. but they require a lot of fiddling to get them to work properly. All in all I am very satisfied now that it works. There are no complaints about the image quality, it is beautiful. The RGB lighting on the back gives it a cool gamer feel, and the 4K resolution is extremely useful for my work. The only reason I downgraded this to 3 stars out of 5 is because it took me 4 hours late at night to get it working properly.
