I got this drive to cheaply repair one of my electric door locks that hadn't worked properly for probably 10 years. (A common problem on 2nd generation LH-bodied Chrysler vehicles; the OEM drivetrain was a poor design with an easy-to-remove plastic gear.) I originally planned to hook this drivetrain directly onto the existing stop bar (without the included to use the rod and the clip). . ), but I didn't realize that the top was rotated 90 degrees from what I originally expected; pay attention to the picture! Installation was a bit difficult due to space limitations in my door, but I managed. The motor is quite strong, there are no problems with my lock. Everything is sealed more than enough to withstand intrusion through a car door. Overall I think it's built pretty well. It's worth noting that mounting hardware (screws, mounting bracket, etc.) is not included exactly as currently pictured. Instead it matches the picture of a similar Install Essentials 524N heavy duty door lock motor so it has a better/more flexible brass bracket, 2 speed clamps, 4 large mounting screws, color coded wires (green and blue), grommet/a tube to route the wires through the door hinges guide, and of course a rod to attach to the new actuator and a clamp to connect it to the existing rod. Looks like an improvement. INSTALLATION TIPS: Apply some blue threadlocker (Loctite) to the terminal screws because loosening them even a little will stop them working. Figure out exactly where you're going to place it, then back off the screws (just one at a time) a turn or two and apply threadlock. Get ready to wire! You've probably sorted out the original material anyway by the time you buy this. - If you are just replacing a broken electric door lock, be sure to disconnect the broken one. I've seen people recommend just making a T-jumper on existing wires, which was a bad idea; A broken lock will still consume some power if left plugged in. - *I highly recommend taking the door latch/lock assembly apart and re-greasing everything*, especially if your vehicle is quite old. It will be much easier for these actuators to move them. Take your time. Don't expect everything to be done in one sitting, wait for the weekend or something. MEASUREMENTS/ETC: All wires provided were 18 AWG stranded copper. The wires from the drive are about 6 inches long and the wires that connect to them are 10 feet long. The door pivot is 5" long, 1/3" inside diameter and about 1/2" outside diameter. .- The mounting bracket is 9" long with 8 gaps of about 4/5" long and 1/4" length in between. - Mounting screws are about 1.1" long from head to tip. The head itself is 1/8" which I find excessive; you can get thinner but wider head screws. The metal rod is about 10" long. Unfortunately I was unable to get accurate measurements of the size of the drive itself, 7" is best. long fully extended and 4" wide at the motor.
