Inexpensive cloth diaper

We have been using these diapers and Bumgenius xs AIO cloth diapers for our daughter since her umbilical cord fell off at about 8 days. She weighed 7 pounds 12.9 ounces at birth and weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces at her last exam at 8 days old and they fit great. We tie in the front as they are a little big full size but we have the waist ties as loose as possible so I hope they last at least another month. I hesitated to invest. in a bunch of newborn diapers, but in the end I bought 3 packs of 6 newborn diapers Alva Baby for 18 pieces, plus 24 bumgenius xs aio diapers from 2 hands, 8 bumgenius xs bamboo diapers and 2 covers also from 2 hands. a fair amount of diapers for newborns, we use about 20 diapers a day and can stretch underwear for 2 days. I would recommend getting at least 36 if you plan on washing every other day, but you can get by with 18-24 if you plan on washing every day. These Alva baby nappies actually hold liquid better than the bumgenius, but I personally like the velcro closure on the bumgenius better as it allows me to change nappies so quickly and not have to darn them. It is easier for my husband and MIL to change them as they are very similar to disposables. But I had to invest in bumgenius diaper boosters as they are AIO and adjusting absorbency is not as easy as with them. We had a few leaks with the Bumgenius so I had to wash the sheets for her bassinet a few times and we had no leaks with these. I stuff several Alva baby nappies twice at night and we only stuff one pad during the day. I'm not a big fan of microfiber inserts, but they are suitable for newborns; We'll likely need bamboo liners when we transition to one size diapers as microfiber isn't the best. That's a lot and I think we'll save money on diapers even at the newborn stage. By the time we started using cloth at 8 days old we had used up 5 small packs of Pampers newborn diapers which are very expensive. I think we would honestly be paying more for disposable diapers if we used newborn and size diapers instead of these and other second-towel diapers. I have already bought a huge stock of Bumgenius AIO one size diapers but if I didn't have them I would buy Alva Baby one size if she is big. If you want to make tissues at the neonatal stage, this is a good option and not very expensive! With hospital nappies and nappy samples being sent in baby sample boxes, we only had to buy a few packs to get her through the scene with her umbilical cord, but you could probably just fold the front of the nappy down!
