I use them for what I would call power walking. I'm 71 and ride 4 miles every day at dawn on forest trails, some of them in the hills. I was using a pair of relatively new New Balance running shoes. I felt like I needed extra support as my legs seemed to "fall off" even more than they had gotten older. There was nothing wrong with the NB shoes, but I was just wondering if there was anything better. I remembered having a pair of Brooks many years ago when I was really running and they were very durable. I completely forgot about Brooks. But I checked these out and decided to take a chance. They are very light. The size was approaching (M12 for me). Arch support is excellent. What surprised me is what they call "guide rails". When I saw it in the description, I thought "yeah, whatever." But when you put these shoes on, you actually feel like your ankles are slightly propped forward. Another thing I want to mention is that these shoes have a "footprint" (sorry) that looks like your foot. Viewed from above, they do not have a rounded toe, relatively straight sides and a less rounded heel. They follow the contour of your foot and taper slightly into the arch for support. I rarely write reviews, but I think I should to thank Brooks and save other buyers all the hassle. Just buy it!
