"Sturdy " wooden construction

I was very excited to get this toy box for my kids for Christmas and I thought it would be "durable" as advertised but how as soon as I started using it started assembling The safety hinges in the lid of the box made the screws snap out of the wood as easily as if it were cardboard. I tried to get it working with just one but it also started tearing. In the photo, the tree broke where the screws broke out. I have no choice but to leave it without safety devices and am so disappointed. alone. Please improve the wood quality or change the more durable assembly method; (which I might add - it was easy to assemble too) but I digress. 🤷🏻‍♀️
