I use a set of these when using the flushing port on my macerator pump. One goes before the hose, one goes after the hose and at the flushing port. This means that no dirty water can get into the hose (which is marked as waste water, not drinking water), let alone the fresh water network. I also use one of these to connect the outgoing hose when it's not connected to the chopper pump. This is done so that nothing comes back out of the hose and doesn't cause an odor. So far no leaks due to the plastic construction.
