Impressive value for money

I've had the opportunity to review the Viltrox 23mm f1.4 for the past two weeks and would like to talk about it real quick. I've been using the X-T3 for the past year and it's been an incredible camera. So far I've only used the 18-55 kit lens as well as the 35mm f2 lens. And while both have their uses, I wanted a lens that I could rely on as an everyday lens. You see, the problem with a 35mm lens on an APS-C lens is essentially a 52mm lens (1.53x crop). , which complicates things since you often have to step back a bit to properly frame the person sitting across from you at dinner (e.g.). So I've been searching the market for a 35mm (full frame equivalent) lens for a while. . The X100V was tempting, but to be honest I didn't have $1,400 to spare. When Viltrox contacted me to try the lens, I was keen to take the opportunity. However, you don't pay me for a positive review to be as impartial as possible. When it comes to build quality, it feels solid. It's certainly not a Voigtlander, but it's close in weight to my Fuji 35mm. The dials seem to rotate fairly freely, including the aperture ring, although it doesn't snap off. The quality of the rear lens cap was terrible as it didn't stay on at all, but that can be overlooked, especially if you already have another lens with a decent lens. Just leave one lens on the camera and use the other cap. Visually certainly not perfect, but given the price it's okay. There is quite a bit of chromatic aberration, but sometimes it is desirable to have imperfect optics in a lens. Bokeh is beautiful. It vignettes heavily at 1.4, but you can compensate for that in post if needed. Capture One doesn't seem to have a profile for this lens, so you'll have to do it manually. Autofocus is surprisingly good for a third-party lens. It seems almost as fast and accurate as my 35mm f2, which is saying a lot. It's certainly not perfect, but damn close. In terms of videos, I can't really recommend it as it's definitely not made for that. It works as a last resort when you lock exposure and focus, but adjusting focus mid-video looks pretty crude. In the end I think this is a great lens for the price. Only about $30 more than Fuji's native lens, which is a lot slower and definitely worth considering.
