So we bought this and life was great. Allowed our house cat to go down to the basement to do his "duties". She figured it out quickly, that's all. Installed fairly quickly and painlessly. We didn't use the locking function because it was an inside door. I tried this and it worked as intended. This is where my dilemma begins. It started accidentally when we changed our cats' diet. She started getting these lesions on her head. They kept getting worse and we went to the vet. New vet and she was useless. She said it could be fleas (she didn't brush our cat), it could be mites (she noticed how clean the cats' ears were), or ringworm. It looked like it might be and just in case (two kids in the house) we decided to check it out ($200, cool). So the unhelpful vet cheated us out of about $300 for his guesses. So I made it a point to just be cautious and get tested for ringworm. I thought about it and thought it might be her diet. Their new food had peas, and before there weren't any peas. We exchanged food and things changed a bit. Then bam, new defeats again. This time I scratch the back of my head. I cook more for her than for me. So we try another round of dieting and still awaiting the ringworm results. One day I walk into my hallway and there are clumps of cat hair and scabs. As if something was ripping out of her hair. Lo and behold, the cat flap. My tech brain turns on hyperactivity, adds two and two (five, right?!), and looks at the door. The magnet on the underside of the door sticks out at an angle (see photo) exposing a sharp corner. This is a huge production no-no. Especially on a device designed for the cat to use its head to open up and get inside. Our poor cat has suffered multiple lacerations on her head due to poor quality control. I used a hot glue gun and duct tape to quickly fix MacGyver while I figure out what to do next. Hmm, I can't add photos yet.
