Review on Sauder Beginnings Bookcase with 5 Shelves, Brook Cherry Finish by Dominique Brown

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not worth it, too weak

Very disappointed with this Sauder bookshelf. It seems to me I remember how many years Sauder had very high quality and durable furniture, but that's not the case at all. I bought this as a last resort because the regular 5 shelf bookshelves I get from Cherry are completely sold out on Amazon and I was desperate for more shelves at the time. However, when my 'regular' ones come back on sale I will most likely throw this one away - not worth keeping at all. Let's start with the fact that the top of the bookshelf is made of raw chipboard. Only one side has a cherry red finish and faces down. While I guess people aren't usually tall enough to see the top, I have mine next to the stairs so it's very obvious and looks downright silly as it's lined up next to other bookshelves that have actual molding at the top to have. The top half and bottom half are held together only by two cam locks (one on each side of the case) and a thin cardboard backing nailed to it. There is a noticeable gap between the top and bottom, even though everything is screwed into the correct holes. My back came out very hunched, and no matter how many nails I hammer in, it still looks wavy. I will use it now, but I absolutely do not dare to put expensive or heavy books on the top half of the shelves. Huge waste of money.
