I replaced this part on my 04 Silverado 2500HD LS in 2011 or so because for some reason I was missing the 5th speed on the fan motor. About a year later, GM recalled this part, so they refunded me about $40 that I paid for it. Obviously they have a problem with this design. In July of this year my cabin filled with smoke and stank terribly. Scared me to death, thought my engine is on fire. Turned the truck off and the HVAC fan wouldn't turn off even with the keys removed so I knew the fan was the problem. Finally found the fuse, pulled it out and it blew. I knew where that part was and it's not hard to get there. When I took it out, the old one was badly melted, and even the wires on the wires from the truck were melted. So it's great that this new device comes with a new wiring harness and not just a module. Pretty easy swap if you're handy. I had no problems for several months. GM should have done more to fix this problem even though it could easily become a fire!
