Wide range of colors and lots of thread. I am an artist and I need a whole range of colors with their shades, tones and shades. While this doesn't offer the full palette an artist could dream of, it is enough for an art project. There will be some shades I would never use, but that's a lot. I should have paid a lot more to get the shades I wanted after a discount at a great local craft store (we all know what that is). This allowed me to fill in the dead space with neutral tones and have lighter shades customized as needed for each project.
