Fantastic idea but too small

Really like this portable french press. I bought this for my husband who likes to take a french press with us when we stay at our parents' house or when we travel. The first thing that happened was that the piston unscrewed from the baskets and they got stuck in the bottom. We managed to screw it back in and out - and that was before we even made coffee! I hope this doesn't go on. The whole point of this was that my husband could quickly make a cup for the street or someone else's house, and he didn't have to look for a place to toss a pile of coffee grounds out of his French press and then grab a plastic bag from the wet french press. Press it while rolling in the back seat. So YES, this gives us a better option. A small thickness is left at the bottom for later cleaning. Fabulous! When he first used it, he decided to take a sip and see how long it would stay hot. It stayed REALLY hot for an hour and hot for another hour. It was still warm at the end of the day – yes, he is an extreme experimenter. The main disadvantage is the size. THIS IS TOO SMALL! Could you please make 16-20 ounces of honey? the size? If used for travel I can confirm it's 10 ounces. A cup of coffee will not satisfy anyone. The rubber seals on the basket also look very filigree. I'm afraid they will tear easily and ruin the seal, but only time will tell. Otherwise we like it very much. PS: Do not brew ground coffee for 4 minutes as prescribed, otherwise you will end up with the most bitter coffee. I have no idea why they recommend it. Less than a minute is enough for French-pressed coffee.

Pros
  • Useful for more than intended purpose
Cons
  • Unsure
