I've read that Schwalbe tires are the best, but I've always avoided them because I'm a cheapskate! However, being tired of changing two sets of tires a year and reading a review from someone who had ridden cross country without even changing their Schwalbe Marathon tires, I decided to give it a try. After six months and 1500 miles I'm sold. There is no noticeable tread wear while I would already switch tires to cheaper brands to try and extend their life. All winter I drove on roads that were often covered with ash and gravel and never fell once, like I had bad grip. Bottom line: you can buy decent tires for less money, but you'll spend more in the (not so) long run because you'll be replacing them 2-3 times more often. If they wear out over time I will have no problem getting another pair of Swallows!
