The story is well known in Massachusetts. This is a well-known family, stuffed with wealth and prosperity. They live on a remote island off the coast not far from Martha's Vineyard. We can say that they are like Kennedys, apart from the political career. But like Kennedy, they are full of mysteries and scandals. Because? The Storey family has been estranged from their matriarch, Mildred Storey, since the '90s. Mildred abruptly separated from all of her children in the '90s and left them to fend for themselves. But why did she do it? Was she so heartbroken about her husband's death that she couldn't be with her children? Or does she know what terrible things they did in one summer? Nobody knows. But the stories of the third generation - they're almost eighteen - I want to know. When Mildred invites her grandchildren to sign up for a summer job program on her island, Millie, Aubrey and Jonah can't refuse. They are curious about their parents' past and, more importantly, they want to meet and interact with their wayward grandmother. Millie always wanted to be in the stories; Aubrey craves love, which her estranged father clearly lacks; and Jonah has issues unrelated to the stories. When these cousins get together for the first time in their lives, they open a can full of worms that they can't close no matter how hard they try. ties that bind. I love the Massachusetts setting. I'm from Massachusetts, and that gives an accurate picture of wealthy people from Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard and the upper crust of the Cape. You can almost smell the blue blood in these parts. The story is well written, the diversions are well thought out and there are many surprises. Sometimes too much. I don't know how I feel about a big reveal or two in (almost) every chapter, but that's what we get here. This is what sets YA apart from most adult detectives - the need for a faster pace. You will still enjoy it. The main characters are likable and well developed, and there is a romantic line as well. Defects? I would love to see more interaction between the 90's story family and it would be nice to see more dysfunction between current children and their parents and how past actions of parents affect their current lives. Otherwise I liked Cousins. This book is a cross between WE WERE LIARS and LITTLE MONSTERS. Four out of five Mango Coconut Smoothies blended with oats and almond milk for a creamy texture!
