The sticky suction cup works very well even on uneven surfaces. Inside the case is a spring that vibrates loudly when there's no phone in the cradle, which is loud enough to be heard over music and quite annoying. The noise problem wouldn't be as big if you could easily remove the holder when not in use, but over time removing and reinstalling the holder will likely reduce the holding power of the sticky suction cup. There is also a rubber piece on the bottom that won't stick to the mount, making it difficult to insert your phone/tablet without the rubber piece coming loose. This can probably be attached with super glue, but it would be nice if it was in one piece.
