We bought one of these at "big hardware store". They had the Craftsman a little bigger than it was, but it was a red laser. Good for indoors but not visible on the street. Green they had Bosch, three times more expensive than these. This one and the Craftsman look similar enough to believe they were made in the same factory. Self-leveling is very nice. I had to mark and cut 8 posts at the same height on sloping terrain. I put them on a borrowed tripod with a spirit level. I moved the table and tripod so everything was pretty damn close to the scale. Then I'll have it aligned myself and Viola! The first photo shows the installation, and the second says it all. I couldn't see it in broad daylight so I waited until it got a little dark and as you can see it was easy to mark each post at the same height. You can also see that the line is very clear at the other end of my yard just in case I want to cut all the trees at the same level as the posts! Off button (power) ONLY used if you do not want self-leveling. If you want to use self-leveling, use the lock/unlock switch, not the power button. The power button turns the unit on and off (and adjusts the brightness) when the lock is engaged, allowing the beam to be angled. Unlocking the latch also turns on the beam and releases the self-leveling pendulum. I've tried a few other methods that were problematic and possibly pretty close, but this has allowed me to get things more precise than I need, which is always a bonus. .Highly recommended!
