I based my purchase on other reviews but obviously you need very specific information to make a sizing decision. I bought size L in white it was supposed to fit a 7 year old, my child is almost 7 and is over 50 percent his height, he is very tall and slim 4ft 2in and 52lbs, this shirt was too big for all respected. Appearance, it's really long, mid-length tights, and it fits him very wide, I think size M will fit a large one, but not so much that he can grow into it, the material isn't what I expected there is a leotard Feel it, I don't know how well this will work in the water but since it's huge, I'll never know If your kid is tall and slim, L size,
