Review on Paracord Fluorescent Reflective Guyline Camping by James Broome

Good tent/utility line NYLON CORE, colors have different weaves

TLDR: This line has a nylon core so it stretches. Blue has a smoother weave. Broke at 180 pounds. I compare this line to the reflective green line of Kelty Triptease (KT) and Nite Ize (NI). This Paracord Planet (PP) is a good middle ground between the two. Reflectivity: NI is the brightest because the reflective stripe woven into the shell is very wide. CT and PP are similar. Weave/Texture: NI is the roughest/worst, again due to the wide reflective stripe. Green and Orange PP are much better but still noticeable. If you were to slide it over your arm under tension, there would be a risk of abrasion. CT and blue PP are the smoothest. You can hardly feel the reflective strips. I don't know why polypropylene materials are different depending on the color. Tensile behavior: KT is the only one with a UHMWPE core, all others are made of nylon. As a result, they stretch quite a bit while KTs don't. Whether this is a good thing depends on your application. With tent guy lines, I prefer not to stretch them, but either way definitely works. I tested the PP (green) and it held 175 pounds but broke at 180 or so. It was quite static (body weight hanging smooth). The installation was a tension between two round carabiners, the cord was wrapped 6-7 times, and then tied with several half loops. I hope this has minimized the loss of strength in the knot. Interestingly, the part of the core that was next to the gap became blurry. The part that wasn't stretched in my test was still smooth. This suggests that the core can be weakened by heavy or cyclic loads even if it has not yet failed. I would keep the working load well under 100 pounds for this cable. Probably closer to 50. The three polypropylene skeins I received weighed 144 g (60 m) together, so they weigh 2.4 g/m. Hope that helps. Still looking for a cheaper source for well covered UHMWPE main line, basically KT line but cheaper. Let me know if you find any!
