I bought this for my 2010 Mercury Mariner Premier it was supposed to fit and it did but here are the issues I had when it arrived today . My idea was to replace the original (although it worked fine) with this one and then use the old one as a spare in case it fails. To slot it into the tailgate, the actual metal bracket is very, very slightly larger, making it a bit more involved to insert. Also, one of the screw holes has very questionable threads, it allowed the screw to be tightened but still didn't feel tight or turn easily on whatever screw I tried. The main issue I had was getting the wire connectors to fit, they were very very very tight, I can't stress enough how tight they were. the tailgate is not closed or something. But then it was a matter of removing it from the car. The original came off easily, especially the wire connectors, this one didn't, I thought I'd snap the wires trying to pull it out, I eventually did but part of one of the connectors had snapped off and a few of the bits were still there remained in the locking end of the connector. I had to remove them with pliers and reassemble the cable connector. I took the whole unit off because I didn't like how it fit and figured if this one fails in a few years I'll never get it out. So this unit arrived today and was returned today when I had really serious concerns. I hope this is helpful to those thinking of trying this unit, it's just a risk you take with these aftermarket units, they usually fit well but this one was different. For those unsure, the Mercury Mariner is basically a Ford Escape with a different logo.
