Very simple and effective!

Key fobs are very easy to program using Dorman's remote programming tool. I needed a programming tool because my car is from 2012. Alternatively, you can contact your dealer or locksmith. The programming tool is plugged into the vehicle's OBD2 port and put into security programming mode, after which the key fobs can be easily programmed. Be sure to follow the instructions on the programmer. They are quite simple, but they must be observed. I've only used mine once to program 3 fobs but read that the programmer is only good for 3 activations so I used one of the 3. In theory, I have 2 more activations on the programmer, but I probably won't need them. This is now that I have 3 keychains. Before I used my programmer, I read something from another consumer who plugged in the programmer before reading the instructions and spent a couple of programming sessions trying to figure out what to do. The programmer costs about $100 at the auto parts store, but it's still a lot cheaper than a locksmith. The entire fob and key programming took less than 5 minutes. I spent about the same amount of time reading directions. The keyfobs come with the included battery and appear to be quite durable. I've had them for a few months now.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Useless features
