Takes the guesswork out of how far to drive a nail or hook from the top of a picture or image. I had no trouble seeing the dimples in my photos. You can always put something like ink, paint or nail polish on the tip and then press it against the wall if you have a very delicate painting that you don't want to press. I used it in a 5 piece painting that would have hung FOREVER without it. One of those things that you might not use every day but would love to have in your toolbox given how inexpensive and convenient it is.
