They worked great but didn't last long

We bought these for our daughter to play outside in a sprinkler pool. They fit well and she really enjoyed wearing them so I think they were comfortable. She probably wore them 4-5 times before we noticed a crack in her toes (see photo). I wouldn't say she was hard on them or worn them down, so I have to assume they just don't last long. ? They weren't very expensive but sad to buy another pair so soon.
