I bought the Sigma TC-1401 teleconverter because Canon teleconverters cannot be used with Sigma lenses and Canon cameras, but Sigma TC can be used with both Sigma lenses on Canon cameras and Canon lenses used on Canon cameras. I've been using the Sigma TC 1401 on my Canon lenses for many years and while I haven't done any specific testing on the templates, I haven't noticed any difference in IQ when using the Sigma and Canon 1.4 teleconverters. The Sigma 1.4 is only 80% smaller than the Canon TC, so fits better in your pocket. I avoid using the Sigma teleconverter with F5.6 lenses as the focus ranges available at f8 are limited compared to all ranges available with the Canon TC on cameras that can use all ranges at F8 . I can't say I noticed a difference in focus speed with the Sigma compared to the Canon, but I have to assume there is a difference as the Canon 1.4 TC III was designed to improve focus speed. According to reviewers, the previous generation Sigma teleconverter cannot be used with Canon lenses. I find it necessary to use a Canon 7d II or newer "professional" body to achieve autofocus at F8. Consult your Canon body manual.
