Filter won't snap into fridge

I bought this a year ago to have on hand when my current polyurethane filter wears out. The old filter is losing flow so I tried putting that in. He doesn't get up. I pressed it really hard and it just doesn't click. To make sure I did everything right, I put the old filter back in and it snapped straight into place, no problem. The new white filter looks the same as the old blue filter, with a few minor differences that other reviewers have pointed out. It seems that these minor differences prevent this filter from working properly. I called Whirlpool support and after 15 minutes of waiting I finally got through to a support rep who walked me through the installation process. It was the same procedure I had already done so I didn't do it wrong before. The filter didn't click. He thought it might be the wrong filter, but I triple checked everything. I have the right filter model for my refrigerator. The service representative thought there was something wrong with this filter as I did not purchase it from Whirlpool. He told me to order one of these and it would fit. I've placed an order but haven't received it yet, so I can't say if the Whirlpool (Every Drop to be precise) filter is any better than the Revain. I'll update this if/when I get a new filter and try it out. By the way, a new filter cannot be returned to Whirlpool for a refund if I open the packaging. Without opening the packaging I can't tell if the new filter will fit or not. So there really is no right of return. I'll bet my $50 on their guess that the same filter from Whirlpool will do, but this one doesn't. Bottom line, this filter is not suitable for the Maytag MSD2559XEM refrigerator. Warning. UPDATE: I ordered the filter directly from Whirlpool as recommended by the support line. The cost was $49.99 plus sales tax. I received the filter in about a week. The Whirlpool filter and Revain filter packaging are identical and the part numbers on the EDR3RXD1 packaging are identical. The filters themselves are NOT identical. When placed side by side you can see that on a Revain filter the filter housing expands as it enters the end cap. With the Whirlpool filter, the body expands only slightly and meets the end cap at a mostly 90 degree angle. Otherwise they look the same. But that little difference seems to be the key. The old blue polyurethane filter also doesn't expand where the housing enters the end cap. When I first tried to put a Whirlpool filter in the fridge, it wouldn't snap into place. However, I gave it another try and replaced the old one to see exactly how much force is required to get it to snap into place. Even with the old filter, I had to give it a final squeeze to make it click, so I tried it on a hot tub filter and it worked. So the Whirlpool filter is SUITABLE and the Revain filter is NOT SUITABLE. I didn't try to remove the new filter to see if it would come out. Destiny would be too tempting. Bottom line, there are at least two versions of this filter. One fits and the other doesn't, even though they have the same item. Emptor caveats to the purchase of third-party filters. I ran water through the filter until it stopped spewing air (about two gallons). The water smells and tastes good. I can't identify any of the off flavors or tastes that other reviewers have reported. The process is fine. It will take time to see how long the filter lasts. I'm leaving this review with one star because I'm reviewing a filter I bought from Revain and not a filter I bought from Whirlpool. They claim it's the same filter, but it's not. Due to the Revain filter misrepresentation, I would remove my one star and give zero if I could. Let the buyer be alert.
