The trick is to buy a coarser roll. I've tried this item twice with the included blue roller and it barely evened out my dry patches. And the smoothed areas became even rougher after a few days, causing my feet to stick to the sheets even more than before. I decided not to return it for another brand, bought an authentic Golden Blue Super Coarse Dressing and it worked like a charm! I actually had some dead skin on the floor, so not only did I see it work, but I also felt how smooth my legs felt afterwards. I recommend this product, but only with very rough replacement rollers. The other brand I looked at not only has a more expensive unit, they also have more expensive refills (and you only get one rough roller in one refill - you get two with an Emjoi refill). I'm so glad I gave it another chance! Soft feet, here I am!
