This replaced a blown bulb so I'm not sure if it's as bright as the original. The lantern is at least 16 years old and may be much older. When new, this would be considered a very bright light. Now it's not that bright with that spare bulb as I have six "tactical" flashlights of different size, weight and price that are much brighter than that old magazine with the new bulb; None of these cost as much as a new mag, but none were as heavy as a D-battery mag. Today at Revain you can get two small but very bright rechargeable tactical lights for $5 more than that replacement bulb. Unless you plan on banging in nails or tent stakes with your flashlight, I recommend going for a flashy "tactical" option rather than renovating an old shop.
