06/14/2017 - Well, now it is completely broken. The piston has come off the supports, and the useless nut has come loose and is no longer attached to the piston. Given all the complaints about Nutsert, you'd think DeeZee would solve that problem, but apparently it doesn't. A good product while it works but there is clearly nothing long term about this product. 11/15/16 - Almost a year later the crappy nut broke again. I contacted Dee Zee support and haven't heard from them for over a month. Great product idea but poor execution and poor quality parts. This is a great little accessory for your truck. It works great on my 2012 F-150. As many others have complained, the parts needed to install this thing could have been a lot better. Especially Nutsert. It's difficult to get this thing installed correctly the first time, even after reading a bad guide. This can easily be fixed with a much better part and leads to many complaints people post about the item. The first Nucert broke after 6 1/2 turns. The instructions say 9-11 turns, but mine didn't either. Luckily, Dee Zee support was kind enough to send me another installation kit. The second time was much better. It turned out to be about 9 turns and the user was well and firmly seated in the hole, but loosened after installing the plunger. I know it will fail eventually, but it looks like it's holding up for now. Aside from the crappy inside, once installed it's great. The tailgate lowers very smoothly and when you lift the tailgate you don't even notice it's there. Overall a great accessory, but the hardware sucks.
