I bought them and Yamaha NX-50 premium computer speakers. I have had the same Sony SRS-D21 2.1 speaker system for almost 5 years and am very happy with it. I never realized how much I missed the music when I had this. I received the Companion III speakers first in the mail and tested them about 5 days before these NX-50s arrived. What I liked about Bose: 1. Doesn't distort the sound even at maximum volume for any type of music2. No feedback noise when the volume control is set to maximum and you are not listening to music3. There is no "sharp" or "high" sound when listening to songs, which may bother some people4. Very balanced sound with little bass emphasis5. A small protrusion on the volume knob is easy to feel in the dark to understand where you turned the knob. I like it because I like to keep it symmetrical.6. The volume control also turns very firmly and feels good. What I didn't like about Bose: 1. It sounds a bit duller or "flatter" than the NX-50. Bose sounds very dull and lacks liveliness (remember this is my opinion AFTER hearing the NX-50. I used to think Bose was great).2. I didn't expect the speakers to be able to deliver deep bass when listening to songs with heavy bass (if you want that amazing bass, get a 2.1 speaker system or install an 8" or larger subwoofer in your car) . However, on most hip-hop songs, the bass is very loud and sounds unnatural for a song. He was great for things like jazz and blues. Now for the Yamaha NX-50! What I like about the NX-50" and live sound. Especially when playing things like jazz, classical, or other songs that don't have ridiculously deep bass notes. 2. Much louder and vocals MUCH clearer. 3. Stuff like that like clicks, bells and bells sounding like they're actually in room 4 with you Small white LED indicator so you know it's on What I didn't like about the NX-50: 1. Feedback noise at maximum volume really annoying 70% or less and adjust the overall volume on the computer to your liking 2. Distortion at higher volumes on most songs I listen to the volume control Bose.4 Bass crackles on very low notes and voices in songs can vibrate Listen to a little hip hop or rap and you'll see what I mean CONCLUSION: While both speakers are good, both have their strengths Pros & Cons If you really can't spend more than $100 on desktop speakers spend more, choose Bose. Just be aware that I think you are sacrificing sound quality. The Bose has a noticeably flatter sound than the Yamaha. However, if you don't hear them at the same time, I'm sure you don't care. Yamaha speakers sound amazing, but for a lot of money. If you really like hearing every detail of a song, I would recommend the NX-50. They are much louder, clearer and more like "surround sound". Just think of the pros and cons I've found for both. Good luck with your choice!
