Review on Apple Thunderbolt Cable 2 0 M by Jeff Rubio

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Extremely high quality; Extremely high price; Make sure you need them before you buy them.

Too expensive. But that's the price you pay for using the latest high-speed transmission technologies. You can use them to connect two Apple computers together, or to connect your Apple computer to a Thunderbolt-enabled external drive (which is my main use for them). They are very high quality, like most Apple products, but at an attractive price. You can try to console yourself with the fact that these cables aren't "just" cables: if you physically destroy the end caps and look inside, you'll find the electronic control components that make the engineering easier. So you're not just paying for the cable, you're also paying for the controller hidden in the cable's end caps. The quality of the cables is also exceptional and they should last a very, very long time if not abused. It's hard to give them five stars based on their value, but they really are a five star product and if you use Thunderbolt I would recommend them over non-Apple brands. ATTENTION! Thunderbolt "This is a topic that causes a lot of confusion. It is NOT the same as the Mini DisplayPort cables used to connect high-resolution monitors to computers. If you're not sure about the difference, see "Thunderbolt and Mini Display Port" to understand the difference. It's confusing because the physical connectors of Thunderbolt and Mini DisplayPort cables are exactly the same and have the same physical (i.e. size) characteristics. But the two technologies serve different purposes and are NOT universally interchangeable. Do your research before you buy, so you only buy what you really need.

Pros
  • The Apple Thunderbolt Cable can also be used for target drive mode between two Thunderbolt-capable Macs or to use a new iMac as a display for a Thunderbolt-equipped MacBook Pro.
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
