When connecting an external Blackmagic Capture card.

I bought this Thunderbolt cable and to be honest I have yet to get it working with a Blackmagic Design Ultrastudio mini recorder for recording. I even bought a genuine tb3 to tb2 adapter from apple and tried to connect to a windows pc with a tb3 connector but it still didn't show up in the bmd desktop software. My Windows Thunderbolt software recognized the device but it didn't even show up in OBS Studio. The same device connected to my macbook with tb2 port and still nothing. Maybe I'm doing…

Don't waste your time

I bought this cable to use with my new iMac and my Thunderbolt-enabled Drobo. He worked for probably a month before he started randomly disconnecting from the computer. At first I thought there was a problem with my new Drobo so I contacted Drobo support and they told me to unplug the cable and use a different one to see if that was the problem. Extremely high quality; Extremely high price; Make sure you need them before you buy them.

Too expensive. But that's the price you pay for using the latest high-speed transmission technologies. You can use them to connect two Apple computers together, or to connect your Apple computer to a Thunderbolt-enabled external drive (which is my main use for them).
