We had CFLs in the basement and they always got a little warm. They also looked ugly. They are much better although I have to install a dimmer because they are really bright compared to the 15w (60w equivalent) they replaced. Can't comment on durability as I just installed it. Installs 11 in about an hour including removing tools, ladders etc and removing old trim rings. My old slip rings didn't use spring locking tabs, so each can took an extra minute or two to pop out the precut spring locking tabs.
