Review on Volkman Avian Science Super Lovebird & Conure Diet Bird Food: Optimal Nutrition for Your Feathered Friends by Biswaroop Hawkins

Suitable as a partial diet for parrots

I have three kennels and I make my mix of seeds and nuts for them, partly with Volkman and partly with organic hemp seeds (full protein) and organic oats. When I fill up her cups each morning, I also add chopped nuts (walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds) and a pinch of Nekton S vitamins. I like Volkman's because it's not full of striped sunflower seeds, which are like crack to parrots and cause fatty liver. It does contain safflower (also high in calories) and some black oil sunflower seeds, but not enough to worry about. However, it is mostly white millet and none of my birds eat it. In fact, it is nothing more than a filler. Seeds and nuts with vitamins are better for birds in my opinion than pellets, which are mostly ground millet, soy and wheat, plus vitamins and minerals and sometimes sugar and coloring. But they shouldn't be the only things you feed your birds. Mine also get a cup of freshly cut fruits and veggies (organic, non-GMO) each day and also love chicken, salmon, boiled eggs, and boiled cereals like brown rice and quinoa.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • I have no particular complaints about it, everything is fine
