Review on KitchenAid Gourmet Medium Grater with Etched Design, One Size, Black by Jacob Thorson

grates cheese like a master

I've never had a major problem with your standard 4-sided cheese grater. I've had several individual graters like this but they were all pretty cheap. This grater has one feature that really caught my eye and that is that it grates in all directions, not just one. I think this is a great idea and will have many benefits. You'll rub your product faster and it'll be more even since you won't tear the surface as you move it back and forth. I know that if you rub it, you should lift it, but I have a feeling most people don't. This grater is very sharp and had no problem with cheese I threw on it but it was mostly medium sized cheese like good cheddar or Colby Jack and the like. I haven't had a chance to try a harder cheese yet. Seems a good size for potatoes if you want to make hash browns. It has a little hidden feature that caught my eye a bit. Half of the tip is silicone or some kind of rubber, it sticks much better than plastic so it's a little easier to rub. It still glides across my counter and even the glass surface, but not as much. The only thing I really dislike is that I wish more metal had been used. The grille is simply a sheet of metal attached to plastic. Where it connects to the handle is just plastic, which I don't like, especially at the price point, which is almost twenty dollars right now. I guess I just expected an overall more reliable product when the price is so high. The quality is good but the choice of materials is not the best. I have a feeling that if you rub something it will eventually break where it attaches to the handle. I'd also like to see a few more grater options on this or maybe another grater. This works great if you want the exact size.

Pros

Cons
  • Does not fit all
